The Empty Flask

The NSA is watching

This isn't the first time I've said this, but I don't understand how anyone, even hard-core republicans, can still support the Bush administration.

In case you haven't been paying attention, the NSA has been keeping records of every phone call you have made within the past few years, and there's a good chance that they've actually listened in on some of those conversations.

To make this problem exponentially worse, the NSA is somehow able to rise above the law and turn away any official investigation into the matter! It all sounds like some crazy conspiracy story, but unfortunately it isn't.

I'm no right-winger myself, but I grew up in a family of conservatives, and I've known many others. None of them would support such a violation of the Constitution. Yet every piece of news I've seen recently shows that the majority of americans don't care . In their flag-waving patriotic frenzy, they support anything the administration does in the name of terrorism, even if it means treating every citizen as a suspect.

What do you think the reaction of the republicans would be if Clinton was caught doing something like this? Is this all party-line politics, or this turning into a new nationalist movement?

And what chilling news will we be hearing about next time?

Fight back. Call your phone company and tell them you are pissed that they didn't stand up for you (apparently Tmobile and Qwest fought them off... at least for a time). Encrypt your email. Write to your representatives. And don't forget to vote.
